The Mezz West State Tour – Forges on!
After just 2 scheduled events of 12 in its first season, The Mezz West State Tour has quickly accumulated 122 members, with an official tour ranking and a desire to earn a spot in the season ending’s, ‘Top Gun” Finale Event of just 16 players in March of 2015. As the Tour prepares for its next stop this weekend at Diamond Billiards in Fresno, California it looks as though the membership should grow to see more new players, sparking not just local interest in winning a piece of the $2,000 added money and a place on the rankings list, the Tour’s third event has also signed on a handful of other popular names in pool like, Gerardo Jamito, Melissa Herndon, Brian Parks, Atila Bezdan and also the young Hungarian Pro, Vilmos Foldes, who has expressed a desire to live on the west coast permanently.
Getting Stronger!
This time, playing 9 Ball instead of 10-Ball, statistically so far, the field for the upcoming Diamond Billiards event is already a little stronger than tour stop #2 at Hard Times – Sacramento, with 5 professional players in the field and more expected. Sacramento’s Hard Times Billiards, which only took in 4 professional players last month saw the rise of Jaynard Orque, who defeated some of its strongest players to take 1st place and now holds a ranking of #4 on the tour. It’s a simple fact, that The Mezz West State Tour, which provides a ranking position to its members and slight handicap to pro players seeking competition is quickly inspiring pool players to bring their best game to fight for a place at the top of the rankings list.
During a brief phone conversation with me on Monday of this week, Tang Hoa, who holds position #11 on the ranking list said, “I want to continue playing this season to make it to the Top 16 and qualify for the ‘Top Gun’ event. I think I have a strong chance to make it in, but just to make sure, I’m going to Fresno this weekend. See you there, Buddy!”
Stop #3 – The Venue is Diamond Billiards!
Diamond Billiards was opened in the mid 1990’s by an industrious man named Dan Dadian who, at one point owned 5 locations in Central California and Reno, Nevada. Passing away in 2012, Dan is survived by his wife, Sheri Dadian and who now owns and operates Diamond Billiards located at 6460 Blackstone Avenue; the venue has been at the 6,000 square foot location for over 10 years. It’s also the home of the annual ‘Rocky Antennucci 9 Ball Tournament’ which takes place every Super Bowl weekend and will also host its 3rd Annual, ‘Dan Dadian Memorial Tournament’ in November of 2014. Serving food and beer, Diamond Billiards is a weekly host to APA Leagues, Michael Reddick and Chris Swart’s – California Cue Sports events and an ‘in-house’ league, playing on 6 x 7′ bar sized tables, and 12 x 9′ Rebco Tables and the new addition of one 9′ Diamond Table. Another noteworthy factoid about Diamond Billiards, which pool players always ask about is that the house tables there have recently been *’Dominguez’ed’ and that means that the upcoming Mezz/West State stop will be held to high standards of excellence and playing conditions.

* Dominguez’ed : To have pool tables maintained by Oscar and Ernesto Dominguez – Arguably, the most sought after pool table mechanics in the Pacific Standard Time Zone.

Dan Dadian, a.k.a. – “Diamond Dan” founded Diamond Billiards and had the belief that everyone should have access to quality entertainment. Diamond Billiards is Fresno’s top destination, bringing people of all ages and skill levels together under one roof.
